Bulk Chick peasChickpeas (Cicer arietinum), or garbanzo beans, have a smooth texture, and slightly nutty flavour. Chickpeas are high in protein, and insoluble plus soluble fibre. This makes them a healthy choice of carbohydrate for diabetics, and they may help lower cholesterol, and help prevent cardiovascular disease.. They are rich in folic acid, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, molybdenum, manganese, and copper. To prepare:- Combine chickpeas with a whole grain for a high quality protein meal, ideal for vegetarians and vegans.
- Sprout for a few days, and added raw to salads and stir fries.
- Rinse, soak over night, and then boil them for approximately 1 hour. Soaking them increases digestibility, and shortens cooking times.
- Once cooked, mix into cold salads, or prepare in soups, stews, curries and stir fries. Make falafel balls, or hummus dip.
