Where did 2008 go? Last time I checked I was writing down my New Year's resolutions!
|
|
|
I love December. I use this time to consolidate all my thoughts and reflect on the year gone past (fast!) and show appreciation for those who have added value to my life.
December at Fresh Earth Food Store is about self indulgence and spending time with family and friends. We will be putting on a braai every Saturday, Fresh Earth style, with an emphasis on the sheer enjoyment of great tasting food in abundance. |
We are proud to introduce you to Jackie Wildish - Nutritional Therapist and Sharon Marsay - Midwife, joining our team of Fresh Earth Practitioners who will be extending their services to our customers from January 2009. For more information on consultation hours and fees, please visit www.freshearth.co.za.
Hope you enjoy our indulgent and decadent cake recipe this month, and if you don't have the time or energy for extensive Christmas shopping, why not consider a Fresh Earth Food Store Gift Voucher?
We are open throughout the month of December except for religious holidays. Bring the kids along and encourage them to donate an old toy to a local orphanage. We will have a large gift box outside the store where the kids can experience the joy of giving!
Thank you to our loyal clients and to all that have made the Fresh Earth Food Store such a success. This paves the way for more exciting products and food we otherwise would not have access to.
Abundant health and happiness during the festive season! Matthew Ballenden

Jacqueline Wildish - Nutritional Therapist
Nutritional therapy uses food and supplementation to create health and well-being. Of the ten leading causes of death in South Africa, four are associated with dietary excess: heart disease, stroke, some form of cancer and diabetes mellitus.
These, and other symptoms, can be prevented or managed by knowing what to eat and by putting this knowledge and proper lifestyle practice to action every day.
There are many different types of individuals and professionals giving advice as to what optimum nutrition is, making it very confusing. What do I eat?
Nutritional therapy is true, safe, efficacious and based upon verifiable evidence. Each patient is assessed and treated according to their unique biochemical individuality and specific nutritional needs. |
|
Jacqueline Wildish is a certified Nutritional Therapist.
With time spent in London studying under the renowned Patrick Holford, she qualified from the respected British College of Nutrition and Health.
She is also an active member of the South African Association for Nutritional Therapy. |
Nutritional therapy can identify changes in body function, and correct them, before disease manifests. A variety of scientific, biochemical and functional tests, such as: hair mineral analysis, blood tests for food intolerance, saliva tests for hormone levels, stool analysis for digestive function and others may be used to form individual treatment protocols and programmes.
So many people spend their health gaining weight, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health. Creating good health now, through sound lifestyle and dietary practice is the best investment you can make.
Sharon Marsay - Midwife
Born in Scotland, Sharon Marsay travelled with her family as a child to many countries. She completed her school education in South Africa and started her nursing career at the Johannesburg General Hospital in 1980. She returned to the UK in 1983 to study midwifery and completed her diploma at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. Thereafter Sharon completed a breastfeeding consultancy course with the NCT (National Childbirth Trust) and followed with a BSc in Midwifery at the University of Abertay in Dundee, Scotland.
Sharon was interested in working independently and in 1992 shadowed an independent midwife for one year, eventually joining her practice at the end of that year. In 1997 Sharon and her husband decided to return to South Africa and she set up her own practice in Johannesburg that same year.
Sharon sees couples from 12 weeks or so of their pregnancy and focuses on a conscious birthing experience, looking at the emotional and spiritual side of pregnancy, as well as the physical. She teaches antenatal classes which focus on homebirth/active birth, i.e. couples take an active role in their pregnancy/birth/parenting journey. She specialises in homebirth, be that in water or dry land, whichever is most comfortable for her at the time. Her C/section rate is in line with the World Health Organisation and she enjoys an exceptionally high intact perineal rate.
Sharon works closely with doctors and doulas in order to assist couples to bring their babies into this world as gently as possible.
