Cod Liver is a source of omega 3 fatty acids in the form of EPA and DHA. Generally cod liver oil contains 12% EPA and 9% DHA. These are a little less than in Fish Oil. Cod liver oil contains Vitamin A which is a fat soluble nutrient good for cellular function, related to growth and development, skin and eye health. It also contains Vitamin D which facilitates the uptake of calcium and which ultimately helps maintain calcium levels in the bones. This “grandma” remedy has been used through the ages for ‘aches and pains” associated with joints. Omega 3 fatty acids actually suppress the production of inflammatory compounds produced by white blood cells.
