THE ONION
As strong in healing power as they are in taste, these vegetables keep disease at a safe distance.
Nutrients: Vitamins B6, C, folate; chromium, copper, manganese, molybdenum, phosphorus, potassium; fibre.
The powerful anti-inflammatory effects of onions make them a vital ingredient in nourishing autumn dishes. They are full of nutrients that counteract respiratory problems at all levels, from the nasal congestion caused by a cold to the wheezing of asthma.
Their antibacterial action combats all kinds of infectious disease and they protect the digestive system, reducing the risk of intestinal growths that could lead to cancer. The same compounds cause the smell and the healing effects, so the more pungent the onion, the more good it will do you.

Throughout our lives, we exist mostly as water.
This connection to water applies to everyone, all over the world. So how can people live happy and healthy lives? The answer is to purify the water that makes up your body.
Water in a river remains pure because it is moving. When water becomes trapped, it dies. Therefore, water must constantly be circulated. The water - or blood - in the bodies of the sick is usually stagnant. When blood stops flowing, the body starts to decay, and if the blood in your brain stops, it can be life threatening.
We all have an important mission: To make water clear again, and to create a world that is easy and healthy to live in. In order to accomplish our mission, we must first make sure that our hearts are clear and unpolluted. If all the people of the world can have love and gratitude, the pristine beauty of the earth will once again return.
The wise words of Masuru Emoto from The Hidden Messages in Water.
Abundant health

The effects of inferior water on our health
by Dr Cornelia Botha
Due to the route our water takes to reach us our water is often contaminated with toxic, heavy metals, pesticides and other harmful chemicals.
| |
Chlorine itself is known to destroy essential fatty acids in the body, as well as the beneficial bacterial in our gut. This is in addition to being carcinogenic. The dose considered the safe upper limit for water purification in the US is .3mg per litre. In SA 1.0mg per litre is used.
Haloacetic acids (HAAs) are a common undesirable by-product of drinking water chlorination. Exposure to it has been associated with liver cancer and sperm damage. It also causes hardening of arteries and converts HDL to LDL cholesterol.
Trihalomethanes (THM) are also formed as a by-product when chlorine is used to disinfect water for drinking. They result from the reaction of chlorine and/or bromine with organic matter in the water being treated. As environmental pollutants, these chemicals are considered carcinogenic. They are known to cause liver, kidney and nervous system diseases – not to mention menstrual and fertility problems Read more...

RECIPE: Brown Rice and Quinoa with Orange Zest and Pistachios Salad
Serves 4
Ingredients: |
60g Shelled Pistachio Nuts 200g Quinoa 200g Short Grain Brown rice 30g Canadian Wild Rice 1 Medium Onion, sliced 150ml Olive Oil Grated Zest and Juice of 1 Orange |
2 tsp Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed 1 Large Garlic Clove, crushed 4 Spring Onions, thinly sliced 100g Dried Apricots, roughly chopped 40g Rocket Salt and Black pepper
Method:
Pre-heat the oven to 170°C
Spread the pistachios out on a baking tray and toast for 8 minutes or until lightly coloured. Remove from the oven and allow to cool, chop roughly and set aside.
Fill two sauce pans with salted water and bring to boil. Simmer the quinoa in the one pan for 12 – 14 minutes and the rice in the other pan for 20 – 25 minutes. Both should be soft but still have bite.
Drain in a sieve and spread out the two grains separately on flat trays to cool it down. While the grains are cooking, sauté the white onion in 4 table spoons of olive oil for 10 – 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.
Leave to cool completely. In a large mixing bowl combine the rice, quinoa, cooked onion and the remaining oil.
Add all the rest of the ingredients, season to taste and enjoy!
