Health Connection Guar Gum Powder
Health Connection Guar Gum is a white powdered gum that comes from the endosperm of the seed of the Guar plant. It is cultivated primarily in Pakistan and northern India, and it is sold mostly for use in food preparation.
Health Connection Guar Gum Powder is a polysaccharide, providing the sugars mannose and galactose, and is commercially added to a variety of different food recipes as a natural binder, thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier.
It provides eight times the thickening power of corn starch, so only a tiny amount is required to bulk and improve the texture of yoghurts, sauces, soups and desserts. It helps achieve a smooth, creamy viscosity in recipes such as puddings, and even acts as a plasticizer which prevents ice cream from separating and icing up.
Health Connection Guar Gum emulsifies and stabilizes oil based sauces, and can also be used in baked goods and pastries to prevent moisture loss. As a dietary supplement, guar gum slows the absorption of sugars, so may be beneficial for diabetics. It creates the feeling of fullness, thus may also prevent overeating, and it even binds to cholesterol and removes it from the body.
Guar Gum can be an effective bulking laxative, but caution is always advised with any bulking agent, to increase water intake considerably. Cases have been reported where duodenal blockages occurred due to lack of adequate fluid intake with Guar gum.
Note that Guar Gum should also be taken separately from nutritional supplements and medication, as it will interfere with their absorption.
