Earth Dulse
What is it: Dulse (Palmaria palmata), also known as sea parsley, is an an organic sea vegetable that grows naturally along the shorelines of the North Atlantic. Dulse is reddish - purple in colour, 20 – 40 cm long, and grows attached to rocks. At certain times of the year it is hand harvested, and spread out under the sun to dry.
Benefits and Uses: Earth sun dried dulse leaf is a delicious edible seaweed. It can be eaten as it is, flash fried into chips, oven baked with cheese and salsa, or quickly microwaved for a crispy treat. Alternatively it can be added to soups, sandwiches, pilafs and salads, or mixed into bread dough.
Dulse develops a slightly chewy texture through drying and cooking, and it retains a hint of a marine flavor. Dulse is known for its high levels of vitamins and minerals. It contains all trace minerals, and is notably rich in fibre, protein, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, fluoride, B6, and B12.
