Star Anise
Non-irradiated Japanese star anise/ star aniseed.
Star anise contains the same aromatic compound that gives anise it's distinct flavour, and is often used in place of anise in recipes.
It is typically used in Chinese and Indian cuisine, for example in noodle soup, biryani, and chai tea.
It is believed to have medicinal qualities, and is consumed to help combat viral infections such as the flu, to soothe gastrointestinal bloating, and as a diuretic.
